We transform complex data into actionable insight, helping organisations make smarter decisions and stay ahead of evolving challenges.

United by purpose and driven by innovation, we're on an exciting growth journey. We invest in technology, push technical boundaries, and empower our people to make a meaningful difference through work that protects what matters most.

Shaping the future of digital defence and security. Solving complex, high-stakes challenges with purpose and lasting impact.

Graduate Systems Engineer

Launch your career helping solve some of the UK's most complex cyber, software and national security challenges.

As a Graduate Systems Engineer, you'll join an environment that provides an exceptional platform to launch your career. At Roke, it's not just about learning new skills through a graduate programme, it's about applying them on real projects, developing innovative solutions and working alongside experts who push technical boundaries every day.

As a systems engineer you will help design complex products, understanding customer requirements and finding the best solution to any problems. We’re looking for curious, collaborative graduates who enjoy solving complex problems.

What We're Looking For

You do not need experience in every area listed below. We’re interested in your potential, your enthusiasm, your approach to learning and the perspectives you can bring.

Essential Requirements

  • A recent degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant subject.
  • A proactive approach, intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively both independently and with others.

Skills and Interests

You will have explored some of the following through your studies, projects, placements or personal interests:

  • Systems of Systems thinking: understanding how people, processes, hardware and software work together.
  • Capturing and analysing customer needs and system requirements, both functional and non-functional.
  • System architecture, modelling and design.
  • Design aspects such as safety, security, reliability, maintainability and system performance.
  • Breaking down complex problems, exploring options and making evidence-based recommendations.
  • Integrating, testing, verifying or validating systems.
  • Using data, models or prototypes to understand behaviour and support design decisions.
  • Communicating technical ideas and collaborating across engineering disciplines.

Your Learning and Development

As a Graduate Engineer, you'll spend your initial weeks in a dedicated Early Careers Boot Camp designed to equip you with the fundamental skills needed to succeed at Roke.

Following Boot Camp, you'll join a project team, continue your development and start contributing to real challenges that support national security and critical systems. The Graduate Scheme lasts two years and provides plenty of variety, giving you the opportunity to build a portfolio of work that showcases your developing skills and supports your future career aspirations.

You'll benefit from:

  • Structured technical training.
  • Support from experienced engineers and mentors.
  • Exposure to a variety of technologies, domains and projects.
  • Opportunities to develop both broad technical knowledge and deeper specialist expertise.
  • Support towards professional membership and future chartership aspirations.

Location

This role is based at our Romsey site in Hampshire: Our Locations & Offices | Roke

We offer flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with a minimum of two days per week spent working at your base location, customer site or engineering facility, depending on project requirements.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of this position, you'll need to be eligible to achieve BPSS and SC clearance. As a result, you should have resided in the UK for the last five years and be prepared to declare any travel that involved being outside the UK for more than 28 days during that period.

Further information on security clearances can be found on the GOV.UK website.
